I'm sick to death of lycra clad brighton types riding around like they pay rego, waiting for motorists to do something which encroaches on their space in someway so they can rant and rave and intimidate (particularly if the driver is a woman).

I'm pissed off that we are building bike lanes e.g. Fitzroy Street, thus removing needed parking spaces so that cyclists can ignore it and ride on the road anyway.

Beware guys.. theres a lot of people like me out there and your behavior is creating more and more...

There is a very good reason for 2 abreast, so the idiot drivers are not tempted to try to overtake in your lane (particularly those idiot drivers who drive in "speak hour"). Most drivers do not appreciate the fact that gusts of wind, divets in the road and other such hazards can cause the cyclist to veer suddenly and if a car passes too close this can lead to serious accidents.

I think the main problem here is idiots that give you all a bad name. Like the 6 fools taking up the northbound middle lane of the Princes Hwy at Engadine at 7:15am last Monday. It's speak hour you idiots!! If you want to ride in peak hour, why the middle lane? Why 2 abreast? Sydney traffic is bad enough without selfish cyclists taking up peak hour highway lanes!

The Sydney morning Herald quoted Magda as saying "As a gesture of solidarity I have offered to participate in the National Ride to Work Day on October 14. Apologies again ... and, yes, I will be wearing lycra".

I'm hoping the apology is for her intention to wear lycra!

Another person who has banned critical thinking from his life. You don't think that by getting her to apologize publicly, that it might make the next "celeb" think twice before spouting off and encouraging hate? Because having to apologize in public sucks.

We simply don't give up because it's a bit hard. I find this is a useful strategy in other aspects of life. You should try it.

Well Paul, I guess there are a lot of black Americans who are happy they didn't just accept hatred of their minority and just lie down and take it like you advocate. Some of us refuse to just accept hatred and violence because of our choice of transport FFS! So sorry they you gave up so easily. Luckily, you appear to be a minority of our minority.

@shane in particular- the growing up reference? how is that relevant? I've ridden bikes for 20+ yrs and commute daily. I've also commuted in Melbourne as well as other parts of Australia. I've also lived in three countries- and commuted in all of them. So now we have that out of the way....

You all need to just accept that Australian culture is to hate all things bikes- where the car rules. It won't ever change either and you can complain all you like and blame all you like and even go nuts and over react at every possible person who dares to make anti bike comments....it won't change.

So yeah, blame me, TV personalities, your colleagues, neighbors and the media- but the fact is that it is the way it is and that's that. It was like it BEFORE this show and it will be like it AFTER.

Stop your whinging.

Paul you sound like you have a lot of growing up to do. I have been riding for over 25 years and have been involved in several accidents some my fault some not but skin and bone is no match against a car etc so i always came out worst off. I still train hard and race as hard as my fitness will allow and i like to arrive home in one piece. I have a family and that comes with responsibilities which from your comments you either have no sense of your responsibilities or just no sense. I do not think it is too much to ask that drivers respect that inside the lycra is a human that want to get home in one piece.

Reading through these posts it is not hard to see why drivers and the public in general dislike us bikers. You all sound like an elitist set of tossers. Life is dangerous- not just riding a bike. Life is about risks and shit happens.

If you all want to be so super safe and never get injured- take up knitting.
